Abstract

1,189,317. Roller-and-ring mills. COMBUSTION ENG. Inc. 4 Oct., 1967 [28 Dec., 1966], No. 45315/67. Heading B2A. A mill 10 Fig. 1, comprises a rotatable grinding ring 12, a plurality of coacting rollers 22 and an annular passage 31 between the ring and the mill casing; the mill includes deflectors 40 above the annular passage 31 to direct gas along with the pulverized particles both inwardly and downwardly, so that the coarser particles separate out of the gas stream and are redeposited on the grinding ring 12. In operation, coal is supplied at 28 and air at 30. Pulverized coal is thrown outwards into the passage 31 and directed with the gas by vanes 44 Fig. 3 until it reaches the edge 54 of the deflector 40. The coarser particles drop out on to the grinding ring 12. The gas and fine particles enter a classifier 34 via inlets 32 and remaining coarse particles are returned to the ring, fines being carried along with the gas stream out of the mill by outlets 38. The coarse particles are fed in a level uniform manner to the rollers 22 by the edge 54 of the deflector 40.
