Abstract

1,189,123. Valves. RADIATION Ltd. 16 May, 1967 [20 May, 1966], No. 22492/66. Heading F2V. A valve for a gas burning water heater has an annular closure member 18 which is moved to control the flow of gas between parts 9, 10 by a magnetic coupling with a float valve 16 in a chamber 2 connected at 5, 6 in the water supply. Valve members 16, 18 comprise ferrite permanent magnets encapsulated in P.T.F.E. and, as shown, there is an attractive coupling between the magnets, but in a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) the polarity is reversed and they repel one another. Closure member 18 is shaped to produce a progressively increasing rate of gas flow as it is raised.
