Abstract

[Also in Division F4] A spray nozzle has a tubular outlet portion with a cylindrical interior surface provided with one or more elongated surface indentations extending parallel to the axis of the outlet portion and terminating at the discharge end thereof. As shown, a spray nozzle for a burner having a body 10 provided with main and pilot inlet passages 11, 12 has a centrally bored member 13 communicating with passage 12 and having radially arranged bores 16 through which fuel from main passage 11 can enter a zone defined between member 13 and a cover member 17 and has trapped between members 13, 17 three parts 18, 19, 20 of which part 19 is a tubular sleeve outlet part with surface indentations or grooves 21, the parts 18, 20 being shaped to impart a swirling motion to the fluid passing therethrough. The grooves 21 may have a rectangular or semicircular cross-section.
