Abstract

118,872. Vickers, Ltd., and Fletcher, C. U. Aug. 10, 1917. Washers.-Consists in improved collapsible abutments or washers to be used in securing milling and similar tools which are screwed on to their spindles. Fig. 1 shows a washer in place between a milling cutter D and a collar B on the spindle A. By collapsing the washer the tool can be unscrewed easily. The washer is made in two ring- like parts E, Figs. 1, 7, and 9, with inclined meeting surfaces so that by rotating the parts the thickness of the washer is increased or decreased. After the parts have been moved into the positions in which the washer is of maximum thickness, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, a plug G<1> is placed between the faces E<4>, F<4>. This plug is made in one with a ring G, Figs. 3 and 8, surrounding the spindle, and is pushed inwards when the washer is to be collapsed. In a modification one of the rings is made integral with the tool.
