Abstract
1,188,706. Monoazo dyes. AMERICAN ANILINE PRODUCTS Inc. 25 July, 1967 [26 July, 1966; 13 June, 1967], No. 34091/67. Heading C4P. The invention comprises the monoazo dyes which are the reaction products of (i) a diazotized arylamine capable of coupling in an acid medium and (ii) a coupling component of formula wherein R 1 is H or OR 2 , R 2 is a C 1-4 alkyl radical and n is 1 or 2, one mole of said coupling component being treated (i.e. some reaction, not necessarily complete, occurs) before or after coupling with at least one mole of each of (1) a halogen-containing compound Q-50-Q or containing the group -CO-Q or -SO 2 -Q wherein Q is a halogen atom and (2) an N- substituted mono- or di-C 1-4 alkyl-formamide or -acetamide. The dyes obtained are compositions which show three major spots when evaluated by thin layer chromatography and give orange, red and blue shades on polyester fibres. In Examples: (1) 3-diethanolamino-4- ethoxy-acetanilide is treated in the presence of pyridine with ethyl chlorocarbonate and dimethylformamide and the unseparated product coupled with the diazonium compound of 1 -amino-2,4-dinitro-6-bromobenzene; (6) 3- diethanolamino - 4 - ethoxy - 6 - (2<SP>1</SP>,4<SP>1</SP> - dinitro - 6<SP>1</SP>-bromo) phenylazoacetanilide is treated as the coupler is treated in (1). Several variants of these processes are described.
