Abstract

The temperature of a rotating body is measured by the corresponding change in the capacitance of a temperature-sensitive capacitor forming part of a resonant circuit, mounted on the rotating body. As shown Fig. 2, the temperature-sensitive capacitor 11 and a coil 13, connected in parallel, are mounted on a rotating test body. An A.C, voltage at the resonant frequency is capacitatively fed to the parallel arrangement from a generator 22 via fixed plate 21 and rotating plate 19, and the voltage across coil 13, indicative of the resonant frequency and therefore temperature, is inductively fed via fixed coil 14 to an oscillograph 15 and a thyratron 17, to energize an alarm at a predetermined temperature. A series of tuned circuits may be mounted on the rotor, selectively energized and cyclically monitored.
