Abstract

1,188,438. Separating metals from mixed metal particles. EISEN UND METAL A.G. Oct.1 1968 [Oct. 3, 1967; Sept.3, 1968], No. 46462/68. Heading C7D. A metal (e. g. Sn or Pb) is separated from a mixture of particles thereof with particles of one or more higher melting point metals (e.g. Zn or Cu) by continuously introducing the mixture into a heated fluidized bed or liquid bath which is at a temperature above the melting point of the lower melting point metal but below the other metal melting points and continuously removing at least part of the unmelted particles along a different path from that taken by the molten metal which sinks through the heating medium. The fluidized bed may be quartz sand or preferably of coke but the preferred treating medium is an organic liquid (e. g. anthracene, anthracene oils, silicones and phosphate esters). The feed is preferably preheated below the melting point of any of the metals (e.g. by hot combustion gases or using a similar bath or bed at a lower temperature than that used for the treatment).
