Abstract
1,187,733. 1,3,10-Trimethoxyberbines. ROUSSEL UCLAF. 16 Aug., 1968 [17 Aug., 1967], No. 39409/68. Heading C2C. Novel compounds of the formula in racemic or optically active form and non- toxic acid addition salts thereof may be prepared by reduction of the oxo group and the 13,14- double bond of a compound of formula which itself may be prepared by reaction of a compound of formula with 3,5 - dimethoxy - # - phenylethylamine to give a compound of formula and cyclizing an ester of this acid with a cyclizing agent. Pharmaceutical compositions containing the above compounds and a carrier or excipient have tranquillizing action when administered orally or rectally.
