118,751. Wait, H. H. Nov. 26, 1917. Centrifugal governors; transmitting-mechanism. -Relates to improvements in the mechanism and in the lubrication of centrifugal governors for steam turbines. The inlet-valve 74, 75, Fig. 2, of the turbines is connected by linkage with a lever 54, Fig. 1, mounted on a pivot 63 and engaged by a spring-controlled plunger 46, which rotates with and is longitudinally movable inside, the turbine shaft 3, which is slotted to receive the governor arms 42. These arms are loosely fulcrummed, preferably in parallel grooves 40, Fig. 4, on a head plate 35 secured to the shaft, and have notches 48 engaging resilient plates 47 secured to the plunger 46. The plunger carries a thrust bearing 58 enclosed by a cup 57 which engages a conical pin 62 on the lever 54. When the speed exceeds a fixed limit, a spring-controlled plunger 100, Figs. 3 and 4, in the plate 35 is thrown outwards so as to engage a lever 95 which through suitable linkage withdraws a detent. thereby closing a butterfly valve 85, Fig. 2. Figs. 1 and 5 show the construction of the shaft-bearing sleeve 19 in two parts 13<a>, 13b and the arrangement of the lubricating ring 25, which dips into an oil well. To permit the removal of the shaft, the lips 114 of the bearing, Fig. 9, may be detachable. From the shaft bearing, oil is supplied by an inclined channel 108, Fig. 7, a duct 107 and a tube 106, Fig. 3, to the cup 57 cf the thrust-bearing 58, and is returned to the oil well 18 by being led through a perforated tail piece 109, Fig. 1, of the cup 57 to the channels 111, 112. The tail-piece 109 bears against a bridge 110 to prevent rotation of the cup 57.
