Abstract

1,187,268. Screening apparatus. J. CHAPMAN & CO. Ltd. 19 Dec., 1968 [27 Sept., 1967], No. 43961/67. Headings BID and B2H. A screening machine, for de-watering plastics powder or sieving flour or pharmaceutical powders, in which a rotary screw (A') delivers the material into a cylindrical space defined by a screen B, wherein rotary blades or brushes (a<SP>1</SP>) agitate the material and/or clean the screen, has its screen in the form of a split-cylinder with ends and edges moulded into split rings B<SP>1</SP> and strips B<SP>2</SP>, both of nylon or polyvinylchloride, rings B<SP>1</SP> having slots b<SP>4</SP> which fit over pegs b<SP>3</SP>, on annular flanges b<SP>2</SP> on the machine frame, while strips B<SP>2</SP> are clamped to opposite sides of a bar C, also forming part of the machine frame. Screws (b<SP>5</SP>) enable flanges b<SP>2</SP> to be moved apart to tension the screen. Fig. 1 (not shown) illustrates two open-ended screens arranged end to end, and a housing cover A<SP>3</SP> enabling access to remove the screens. The screens are woven or moulded nylon, polypropylene, polyester or Courlene (Trade Mark).
