Abstract

1,187,266. Laminated transmission belts. DAYCO CORP. 21 Aug., 1967 [26 Aug., 1966], No. 38475/67. Heading B5N. A V-belt, i.e. a power transmission belt of trapezium-shaped cross-section, comprises a body of elastomeric material, a layer of longitudinally extending cords embedded in the body and at least one layer of fabric embedded within the body parallel to the layer of cords and having warp and weft threads disposed at an angle of 95-155 degrees to each other. The layer of cords is located between the outer belt section, which will be under tension in use, and the inner belt section, which will be under compression in use. The fabric layers may be located in the compression or tension section or both. Either or both of these sections may be wholly comprised of such layers, and the layers may be coated with rubber. In making the belt, the cord may be wound round a belt sleeve, which, after completion of the laminating process, may be cut into individual belts. The cords in each belt are then spaced helical windings. The central section of the body in which the layer of cords is embedded may be of an elastomeric material different from that of the rest of the body. Two fabric layers may bound this central section.
