Abstract
1,186,894. Electric coils. DOWTY ELECTRICS Ltd. 25 April, 1967, No. 18905/67. Heading H1P. A coil comprises a tube and a pair of spaced end members forming a bobbin, a solenoid winding on the bobbin, a recess in one end member opening to a surface spaced from the winding, and one or more electrical components connected to the winding and secured within the recess by means of insulating material. As shown, Fig. 1, the bobbin 2, 3, 4 is moulded from a thermoplastic material, such as polyamide resin, and has an annular recess 5 in one flange within which are mounted diodes 6 connected to the windings, e.g. to feed D.C. to the winding from an A.C. source. The recess is filled with an epoxy resin 7 to encapsulate the diodes. The bobbin is provided with a non-magnetic tube 11 and is mounted in a magnetic housing 12, 13, 14 provided with a fixed core 15 and a slidable armature 22 which lie within tube 11. The movement of the armature is communicated to a push rod 24 by a spring 26 mounted within the armature, and a return spring 25 is provided in the fixed core 15. Sealing rings 17 and 21 are provided so that the force motor may be used to operate an hydraulic valve. The electrical component may also comprise capacitors and/or resistors instead of, or in addition to, the diodes. The recess 5 need not be annular and may be on the circumferential face of the flange. The bobbin may be of metal, in which case non-magnetic metal tube 11 may be omitted.
