Abstract
1,186,737. Electrophotographic element. RANK XEROX Ltd. 30 June, 1967 [1 July 1966], No. 30210/67. Heading H1K. [Also in Divisions C1 and G2] A printing master comprises a support substrate coated with a layer comprising a photoconductive material dispersed or dissolved in a glass insulating binder, which layer, after forming an electrostatic latent image thereon and developing said image, is etched to form the desired pattern. In a preferred method of forming the plate, the photo-conductive material is mixed with the glass dispersed in water or ethylene glycol, using a ball mill, optionally with sodium silicate, sodium hydroxide or boric acid as dispersing agents. The slurry is then dried and blended with isopropyl alcohol, the blend being applied to one or both sides of the support by flow coating, dipping or spraying and fired at 300-1500‹ F. The support may be aluminium, brass, steel (stainless or low carbon), copper, nickel, zinc, and alloys and mixtures thereof. The photo-conductive material is preferably a phthalocyanine pigment, zinc oxide, zinc sulphide, zinc cadmium sulphide, cadmium selenide, cadmium sulfoselenide, zinc cadmium selenide, zinc sulfo-selenide or mixtures thereof, but many other inorganic photo-conductors are specified. The glass preferably comprises SiO 2 , B 2 O 3 , PbO, CdO, TiO 2 and Na 2 O, but may also contain Al 2 O 3 , K 2 O, CaO, CdO, ZnO 2 , Sb 2 O 3 or As 2 O 3 .
