Abstract

1,185,823. Forming pellets. ELLIOTT ASSOCIATED DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. 21 March, 1967 [21 March, 1966], No. 12390/66. Heading B5A. Streams of molten sulphur from a container 15 are discharged, via nozzles 16; into the upper end of a cylindrical vessel 11 filled with cooling water which is swirled by impellers 18 on a rotated shaft 19 and optionally by tangential entry water jets at the side of the vessel 11, whereby the sulphur streams are broken up into discrete globules which solidify in falling to the base of the vessel 11 from which they are discharged, via a rotary valve 14. The shaft 19 extends through the container 15 and is hollow and provided with a conical base diverging towards the converging wall of the container 11 at the base thereof, whereby rising air admitted upon the rotation of valve 14 is entrapped and vented up through the shaft 19. The pellets discharged through valve 19 may be collected on a wire screen or other dewatering device.
