Abstract

1,184,417. Spinneret. KANEGAFUCHI BOSEKI K.K. 9 Feb., 1968 [10 Feb., 1967], No. 6565/68. Heading B5B. A spinneret for manufacturing conjugate filaments of two polymeric materials having a uniformity of at least 95% comprises two reservoirs 1 and 2 separated by a partition wall 3 of uniform thickness and mutually interconnected by a plurality of straight channels 4 perpendicular to the partition wall and arranged at uniform intervals along the wall, a plurality of ducts 5 perpendicular to the channels each having an inlet in one of the channels and an outlet at one of the orifices 6, the orifices being arranged in a zig-zag formation and the inlets of the ducts being at positions on the channels which are not equidistant from the two reservoirs, the dimensional parameters of the channels, ducts and orifices satisfying the following formula where: l 5 is the length in mm. of the duct; l 6 is the depth in mm. of the orifice, x and y is the length of the channel from the nearest and farthest reservoir, respectively, to an inlet of the duct, K 1 is a shape factor of the channel and duct and K 2 is a shape factor of the orifice and channel. Formulµ for K 1 and K 2 are derived for spinnerets having (i) circular channels, ducts and orifices, (ii) polygonal channels and circular ducts and orifices, (iii) rectangular channels and circular ducts and orifices, (iv) circular channels and ducts, and orifices composed of a plurality of small holes of different radius, (v) rectangular channel, circular duct, and orifices composed of a plurality of small holes, (vi) circular channels and ducts, and orifices composed of various shapes of slits, (vii) rectangular channel, circular duct and Y-type slit. The reservoirs may be arranged in a side-byside relation with the partition wall having plane parallel sides as in Fig. 2 or the reservoirs may be arranged concentrically, as in Fig. 7, with an annular partition wall. Examples are given using nylon 6 and nylon 6 containing TiO 2 as a pigment for forming the conjugate filament.
