Abstract
1,184,335. Valves. BUREAU D'ETUDES TECHNIQUES RECHERCHES ET INVENTIONS. 13 March, 1967 [14 March, 1966; 7 Dec., 1966], No. 11609/67. Heading F2V. A needle valve comprises a body 1 with a bore open at one end, a detachable seat member 12 fitted within the bore, having a passageway 13 with a seat at one end and a port registering with an inlet or outlet passage 5, annular packing rings 27, e.g. of copper, steel, or aluminium, to seal between the member. 12 and the body 1 disposed on opposite sides of the port, and a tightening screw 25 engageable with the member 12 to prevent it being moved by the needle 7. In Fig. 1 two lower rings 27 are compressed by a closure 23 which is bolted to the housing, and the screw 25 exerts a thrust on the member 12 to comprise the upper ring 27. In Fig. 4 (not shown) only one lower ring (40) is used, which is compressed into a housing step (41) by a screw passing through a closure (44), the threaded bore being sealed by a further screw (49) having a sealing ring (48). In Fig. 5 (not shown), a single lower sealing ring (58) has parallel surfaces (55), (56) and a lower face formed by two truncated conical faces (58), and (59) which are compressed against a cylindrical wall of the housing by a rounded surface (54) on an upstanding lip (53) on the closure (44).
