Abstract

1,183,985. Caps for bottles. POLYTOP CORP. 11 Aug., 1967 [25 Aug., 1966], No. 37025/67. Heading B8T. A plastics dispensing cap for a bottle has a body 12 and a pivoted spout 14 rotatable between open and closed positions, trunnions 40 at each side of the spout being snapped through tapered slots 34, 36 in the body to be retained in over-size journal recesses 32. The spout 14 is then biased downwardly against a resilient sealing ring 28 surrounding a hole 24 passing through the cap body 12. The trunnions 40 contact the journal recesses 32 only along lines of intersection 35 joining walls 34, 36 forming the tapered slots. The spout 14 has a part-cylindrical knuckle 44 allowing its rotation to align a bore 50 with the hole 24. The lower sides 52 of the trunnions 40 are made flat, to facilitate their insertion through the tapered slots 34, 36. In the form shown, the top of the spout 14 when in its closed position lies flush with the top of the cap body 12. Alternatively the spout 14, trunnions, &c. may be arranged partly above the top of the cap body 12.
