Abstract

1,183,323. Bearings. SKEFKO BALL BEARING CO. Ltd. 9 March, 1967 [14 Dec., 1965], No. 53088/65. Heading F2A. A housing for supporting a bearing comprises a one-piece synthetic plastics moulding having an outer axially-extending flange 14, Fig. 1, which is received in a roller-sleeve 10; an inner axially-extending flange 15, which receives a bearing 12 therein; the bearing being located axially by means of a shoulder 17 which extends radially inwardly from the inner flange 15; and radially extending ribs 16 which interconnect the flanges 14 and 15. The outer flange 14 may be chamfered at 20, Fig. 3, and may be increased in diameter at the end adjacent the chamfer 20 so as to effect an interference fit with the roller-sleeve 10. The interference fit may also be effected by means of a number of axially-tapered projections 33, Fig. 5; by a deformable portion 52, Fig. 8; and by an additional outer flange 61, Fig. 9. Radial resiliency is provided by positioning the projections 33 in alignment with the spaces between the ribs 16 and/or by inclining the latter. The bearing 12 may also be retained axially by means of a lip 23, Fig. 1, which may be integrally moulded or formed by a heating process. The bearing may be provided with seals 18, 21.
