Abstract

1,183,278. Thermionic-cathode tubes. SIEMENS A.G. 6 Sept., 1968 [8 Sept., 1967], No. 42469/68. Heading H1D. In a mesh-type cathode comprising a tubular mesh-grid of cathode wire 1 which is attached at one end to an annular heater conductor 3 and at the other end, through a cap 4 having regularly disposed sprung arms, to a coaxial support pillar 5 forming the second heater conductor, the cap 4 is formed of a number of star-washers 6, see Fig. 5, superposed one upon another with their arms staggered, Fig. 4 (not shown). The ends of the arms 7 may be bent up at right-angles at the edge of the cup 4 where they are of such width that they just fail to overlap one another, and preferably the total number of arms in the cap is equal to the number of points of intersection of the cathode wires around the periphery of the mesh-grid. A part washer (10), Fig. 7 (not shown), may be used to make up the number of arms required. Adjacent star-washers may be separated from each other by a plain washer. In the mesh cathode at all the points of intersection the pairs of wires may be welded together.
