Abstract

1,182,875. Nitrocellulose lacquers; hydrolysis of proteins. FABERGE Inc. 21 May, 1968 [26 Jan., 1968], No. 24252/68. Headings C3F and C3H. A nail lacquer comprises nitrocellulose solids, volatile organic solvents therefor and 0À05- 1% by wt. based on the total solids of a protein hydrolysate having an M.W. of 500-10,000 and which is at least 25% by wt. soluble in ethanol at room temperature. Hydrolysates of collagen or gelatin are specified wherein, respectively, the residual carboxyl groups may be esterified or amino groups acetylated. The solvent may be an alcohol, ester, ketone and/or aromatic hydrocarbon. Camphor, dibutyl phthalate and a U-F resin are other exemplified additives. Collagen is hydrolysed using NaOH and the carboxyl groups of the resulting polypeptides esterified with C 1-3 fatty acids after neutralization. Gelatin is hydrolysed using H 2 SO 4 and the amino groups of the hydrolysate subsequently acetylated with acetic anhydride.
