Abstract

1,182,558. Fuses. OLVIS SMELTZEKERINGENFABRIEK N.V. 18 Sept., 1968, No. 44299/68. Heading H2G. A fuse comprises two electrical conductors 4 connected by a fusible pellet 6 which may be of synthetic resin, at least one of the conductors being formed as a winding 5 about a resilient element 3, the connection being broken as a result of a spring action when the pellet melts characterized in that the or each resilient element 3 provides the spring action. Elements 3 are preferably made from electrically insulating material, for example a glass fibre. Heavy currents may cause melting of a conductor 4. In a second embodiment element 3 is made from conducting material and is sprung such that when the connection is broken a further connection between two auxiliary contacts energizes an alarm system (Fig. 2, not shown). In a third embodiment, the fuse is used on a printed circuit board wherein element 3 is bowed between a hole in the circuit board and the printed circuit itself to which winding 5 is attached by means of pellet 6 (Fig. 3, not shown). Two further embodiments are described in which the device is disposed in a cartridge-type case (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown). An alternative construction of the elements 3 is described in which instead of a separate winding 5, elements 3 are etched with a conductor to form a printed winding.
