Abstract
1,182,302. Photographic materials for diffusion transfer processes. INTERNATIONAL POLAROID CORP. 11 Jan., 1967, No. 1485/67. Heading H5R. [Also in Division G2] A photographic material for the diffusion transfer process comprises an opaque support coated with a light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer and a translucent layer containing an opaque material in an amount such that the ratio by weight of the material to silver is between 5 and 15: 1 and optionally containing a silver precipitating agent and, if not, an overcoated layer containing a silver precipitating agent. When this material is image-wise exposed and developed in the presence of a silver halide solvent, a positive image is produced in the layer containing the silver precipitating agent and the negative image produced in the emulsion is masked by the opaque material. Alternatively, the opaque material may be produced in the translucent layer after image-wise exposure. In the examples, a paper support is coated with a gelatino silver halide emulsion layer, a layer of gelatin and titanium dioxide so that titanium dioxide: silver is in the desired ratio, and an image-receiving layer containing sodium sulphide and cadmium and lead acetate. The material is image-wise exposed and developed in an alkaline solution containing a developer and a silver halide solvent'to produce a silver image in the imagereceiving layer. The material may contain an intensifying fluorescent screen which may be on the back of the support, between the translucent and overcoated layers, or in the overcoated layer and be used in X-ray photography. Calcium carbonate, magnesium oxide and barium sulphate are also specified as opaque materials. The material may contain a humectant or a siliceous material in the translucent layer as disclosed and claimed in Specifications 1,182,307 and 1,182,308.
