Abstract
1,182,081. Preparation of 2-aryloxyethyl esters. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. 26 April, 1968 [27 April, 1967], No. 20013/68. Heading C2C. The preparation of 2-aryloxyethyl esters of aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acids comprises reacting an aryl ester of such an acid with ethylene carbonate at 100 to 200 C. in the presence of an alkali or alkaline earth metal halide, hydroxide or thiocyanate or organic base as catalyst. In examples, the preparation of phenoxyethyl acetate, laurate, stearate, benzoate, hexahydrobenzoate and ptoluate; di-(m-cresyloxyethyl)-cyclohexanedicarboxylate; m-cresyloxyethyl benzoate; diphenoxyethyl iso- or tere-phthalate; di-(mcresyloxyethyl) - isophthalate; di - (p - chlorophenoxyethyl) - terephthalate and monomethylphenoxyethyl terephthalate is described.
