Abstract

1,182,078. Walking aid. M. W. PAYNE. 2 Oct., 1968, No. 46848/68. Heading A6M. A walking aid comprising a frame mounted on three or more spaced wheels and a handle positioned over the wheelbase is characterised in that the wheels have a braking force acting thereon continuously which is not releasable by the person using the aid. As described, the braking force is obtained by mounting the wheels (which may be rollers or castors) on the axles by means of tight nylon self-lubricating bushes. As shown in Fig. 1, the frame comprises a main tube 1 and an auxiliary tube 2 in the form of a U attached at the centre to said tube 2, the ends of said tubes carrying wheels 7; the wheel 7a on the main tube is rotatable about a vertical axis to facilitate turning corners. The handle 9 is mounted telescopically on the main tube. A stay 8 and a cross bar 15 carrying a container, are provided. In Figs. 3-5, (not shown) a generally similar frame is supported on a rectangular board having wheels at each corner (the front ones being similar to 7a) and sides supported on the board to form a container.
