Abstract

1,181,671. Turret lathes. WICKMAN LANG Ltd., and D. M. BLACKBURN. 2 June, 1967 [1 April, 1966], No. 14651/66. Heading B3T. In a turret lathe the traversing movements of the turret are effected by an hydraulic piston- and-cylinder assembly 19, 19a and 19b which is controlled by a stylus operated servo valve 21, the stylus 22 being actuated by a nut 30 on a rotatable screw 29 driven through gearing 11 from the lathe spindle 10 and via a variablespeed gear-box 23 incorporating electromagnetic clutches 25, 26. The drive from the variable-speed gear-box is effected by belt, chain or gear from 27 to a further clutch 28 co-operating with the screw 29. The speed of rotation of the lathe spindle 10 and the speed of traverse of the turret are adjustable to obtain given ratios relating to operating conditions required. The control of the servo valve 21 is effected from a control panel 40 which has stops 43 associated with each indexed position of the turret and which actuate switches 46 carried on a crosshead 45 supported on shafts 44 attached to the turret and which traverses in unison therewith, the operation of the switches 46 effecting the operation of the variable-speed gear-box and hence the traversing motion of the turret in each of its respective indexed positions.
