Abstract
1,181,653. Pipe connections. UNITED GAS INDUSTRIES Ltd. 6 Feb., 1967 [4 Jan., 1966], No. 48838/69. Divided out of 1, 181, 651. Heading F2G. [Also in Division F4] A balanced flue assembly 34 having an inner flue pipe 33 and an outer telescopic two-part air inlet pipe 35, 36 is so constructed that it may be inserted through and mounted within the aperture of an exterior wall 39 solely from the inside of a building. The sections 35, 36 forming the air inlet pipe, are provided with radial flanges 42, 41 respectively, between which are arranged resilient polyurethane washers 43-45. Section 35 has a further flange 38 at its inner end. The flue assembly 34 is inserted through the wall aperture till flange 38 abuts the inner wall surface, then the flue pipe 33 and the section 36 which is attached to it by spacers 40, are pulled inwardly to telescope them within the section 35 to adjust the length of the flue assembly 34 to the thickness of the wall 39 through which it is mounted. The washers 43-45 are thus compressed axially between the flanges 41, 42 and so expanded radially to mount the flue assembly tightly within the wall aperture. The assembly is finally secured in position by a rivet or split pin (not shown) passing through holes 48 in the flue pipe 33 and in a surrounding yoke (not shown) attached to the inner flange 38.
