Abstract

[Also in Divisions E1-E2] The goaf G behind a coal face F is packed with debris produced by a ripping machine forming roadway R, the debris dropping on to scraper conveyer 10 for transport to the goaf area on one or other side of the roadway where it is deflected laterally off the conveyer by a plough 35 movable along the conveyer in steps. The conveyer deck plate 30 stops short of each end to allow undeflected debris to drop through. The conveyer comprises five endless chains 32 carrying transverse flights, and the plough is moved by chain 36 as each length of goaf is filled. When the area is filled, jacks 14 advance the conveyer, and filling of the new area is commenced. Support jacks 13 may be extended to raise the conveyer in the roadway to provide headroom for the passage of men and materials to the coal face.
