Abstract

1,180,621. Making tubing; bending. YODER CO. 10 April, 1967 [10 Feb., 1967], No.16362/67. Headings B3A and B3E. A tube mill includes a cage roll assembly having beams supporting the cage rollers and two point support means at each end of each beam supporting the latter for movement along inclined linear paths of different inclination. The tube mill comprises an initial breakdown having an edge-forming device 2 (Figs. 1 and 3), a second breakdown 3 (Figs. 1 and 7), a third breakdown 4, cage roll assemblies 5, 6 and 7 and three fin passes 8, 9 and 10. The initial breakdown comprises upper and lower rollers, the spindle of the lower roller also supporting idler rollers arranged one on each side. The edge-forming device 2 comprises pivoted frames 34 and 35 (Fig. 3), each carrying forming rolls 48, 49 on adjustable yokes for varying the pass size. An adjusting screw 52 having left- and right-hand thread portions 53 and 54 main. tains the frames symmetrically about the mill axis. The roll sub-assemblies 38, 39 may be readily replaced by others having rolls of different size. The second breakdown comprises a vertically adjustable mounting carrying three rolls 84, 85, 79, the centre breakdown roll 79 co-operating with a bottom driven roller 154 (Fig. 7). Each cage roll assembly comprises two beams 91 supporting a multiplicity of rollers 117, 118, each beam being mounted on inclined guide tables 92, 93 (Fig. 5) on each side of the mill axis. A slide plate 98 is adjust. ably positioned on the guides by means of a screw 95 and the plate carries the beam 91 in stanchions 99, 100 positioned at right-angles to each other. The beam has a floating movement on the stub shaft 103 mounted in the stanchion 99. The rollers are adjustably supported on the beam as shown in Fig. 5.
