Abstract

1,179,702. Piston and stuffing-box packing. GEORGE ANGUS & CO. Ltd. 23 May, 1967 [26 May, 1966], No. 23678/66. Headings F2B and F2T. In packing for use between relatively movable parts, e.g. a piston-rod and cylinder, and comprising an elastomeric sealing ring and an anti-extrusion ring 16 of synthetic plastics material, the sealing ring has lips 10, 11 extending from a base 12 with a flat radial surface 19 and the ring 16 is of right angle triangle cross-section with the sides subtending the right angle extending radially and axially, the radial side 17 being coplanar with the surface 19 and having a length of about onethird of the radial width of the sealing ring and meeting the hypotenuse 20 at an angle between 40 and 70 degrees. The sealing ring is of rubber and the anti-extrusion ring may be of nylon or P.T.F.E.
