Abstract

1,179,487. Blood sampling. E. ROSE. 8 May, 1967 [7 May, 1966], No. 21235/67. Heading A5R. In a device for the withdrawal of blood comprising a cylinder within which is slidably mounted a piston to which is secured a piston rod having manually grippable means, a hypodermic needle is secured to the piston rod and is in communication with a duct formed in the piston to extend axially therethrough. As illustrated, the duct extending through the piston 3 continues as a duct 5 extending through the piston rod 2, the hypodermic needle 6 and the manually grippable means 7 are situated at the end of the piston rod remote from the piston, the end 1a of the cylinder 1 remote from the hypodermic needle is closed, the piston includes an annular sealing ring 4, and guide ribs 2b are formed on the piston rod to extend axially therealong; as illustrated in Figure 2 (not shown) four regularly spaced guide ribs extend from the central stem 2a of the piston rod. The cylinder may be made of glass or a plastics material; the piston and piston rod may be an integral moulded, unit made, for example, of plastics material; the annular sealing ring may be made of rubber.
