1,178,845. Spanners. L. JOHNSON, and K. ROBOTHAM. 2 Aug., 1967 [18 Aug., 1966], No. 36965/66. Heading B3N. A spanner for screwing up a pipe coupling 10, comprises ends 28, 32 forming different diameter apertures 34, 36, and equally spaced recesses 38, 40 for engagement with projections 12 on the coupling. The pitch of the recesses is half that of the projections and the apertures extend for more thana semi-circle. In a modification every other recess is elongated so as to accommodate imperfectly formed couplings. The spanneris bent at points 42, 44.
