Abstract

1,178,108. Sampling liquids. WHESSOE Ltd. 6 Dec., 1967 [18 Oct., 1966], No. 46495/66. Heading B8N. A device for taking samples of liquid in a tank 1 comprises a boom 4 hinged at its lower end to an anchor point 5 and provided at its upper end with a float 6, a liquid sampling passage 8 having an inlet 11 and extending along the boom to adjacent the anchor point and a pump arrangement for withdrawing liquid through the passage. Additional sampling passages 11, 12 may be provided so that liquid samples may be taken from different levels in the tank. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, the boom 17 is hinged at 20 in order to allow the sampling device to operate in tall and narrow tanks. In a further embodiment, the boom may be formed from three tubes connected together, the tubes being used as the sampling passages; a guide wheel may be mounted on the top of the boom and arranged to ride on the wall of the tank.
