Abstract
1,177,848. Hydropneumatic suspensions. MOULTON DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. 19 Sept., 1968 [28 Sept., 1967], No. 44254/67. Heading B7D. A vehicle suspension comprises at each wheel a variable rate hydraulic displacer unit 4 connected by a conduit 6, having a flow restricting orifice 7, to a hydropneumatic spring 5, the gas chambers of which, on those units associated with the front and rear suspensions on the same side of the vehicle being interconnected by a small bore pipe 10. There is no connection between the systems so formed on each side of the vehicle. Each displacer unit 4 comprises a flexible diaphragm 3 acted upon by a piston element, and each hydropneumatic spring comprises a flexible membrane 9 separating the gas from the liquid. The flow restricting member 7 may be an annulus of rubber having an inwardly tapering section to form an annular flexible lip which is deflected by the liquid passing.
