Abstract

1,176,849. Winding sliver. GIDDINGS & LEWIS-FRASER Ltd. 31 May, 1968 [10 June, 1967], No. 26905/67. Heading DIN. Sliver 42 is wound onto arbor 10 by a rotating driving roller 13, the arbor and the driving roller being arranged with their axes parallel and projecting externally from one side 22 of a frame structure. The frame structure includes a base frame 2 on which the roller 13 is mounted and an upstanding, inclined column 4 attached to the base frame on which the arbor is mounted. The column has two longitudinally extending guideways 5 on which a saddle 6 slides, the saddle 6 itself having the transversely extending guideways 7 in which a slide 8, rotatably supporting the arbor 10, slides. Initially the arbor is rotated by a wheel 22 co-axial with the roller 13, the arbor together with the slide 8 and saddle 6 sliding up guideways 5 as the diameter of wound sliver increases. At the end of the winding a piston and cylinder device 11 is actuated to cause slide 8 to move inwardly between guides 7 and bring arbor 10 clear of sliver roll 43 which then falls away, directed by guide plates 40.
