Abstract

1,176,376. Railway vehicle roofs. OFFICINE DI COSTAMASNAGA S.p.A. 3 March, 1967 [4 March, 1966], No. 10049/67. Heading B7L. A vehicle, particularly a railway wagon, having an operable roof is characterized in that the roof is comprised of two longitudinally extending shells 2, 2a, Fig. 2, having arms 21, 21a respectively, pivoted at each end 30 of the vehicle on a pin 7 vertically movable by a driving means 3, 8, the shells also being pivotally connected to the vehicle ends 30 by links 5 and hinge pins 4. Each pin 7 is carried by a slide 33 movable in vertical guides 34 on end wall 30 and is mounted in an eye at the end of a pistonrod 8 movable in a double-acting hydraulic cylinder 3, secured at 32 to the end wall 30. The pin 7 is also secured to a triangular plate 35 welded to a cross-piece 36 which is guidable over the cylinder 3, balancing springs 6 being positioned between the cross-piece and an end wall stiffener 37. The opposed upper edges of the shells are provided with angle sections 9, 9a to coat with a sealing gasket as described with reference to Fig. 4 (not shown). The shell 2a is fitted to the pin 7 by a close fitting circular hole whereas the shell 2 connects with the pin 7 by having an elongated hole, to facilitate making and breaking its seal. The cylinders 3 are connected to a manually operable pump (not shown).
