1,176,319. Orotic acid and orotidine. KYOWA HAKKO KOGYO CO. Ltd. 24 April, 1968 [15 May, 1967; 13 Nov., 1967], No. 19487/68. Heading C2C. orotic acid and/or orotidine are produced in a process which comprises culturing a microorganism capable of producing orotic acid or orotidine and belonging to the genus Brevibacterium, Arthrobacter or Corynebacterium under aerobic conditions in an aqueous nutrient medium containing as the main carbon source at least one hydrocarbon or at least one polyol, accumulating orotic acid, orotidine or a mixture thereof as the product in the resultant culture liquor, and recovering said product therefrom. The culturing may be carried out at a temperature of 20‹ to 50‹ C. and at a pH of 5À0 to 9À0.
