Abstract

1,176,123. Desiccant compositions. JOHNSMANVILLE CORP. 3 Jan., 1968 [9 Jan., 1967], No. 528/68. Heading B1L. [Also in Divisions B8 and C1] Liquid acids or acid solutions are converted into a powdered form which may be used as a desiccant by being adsorbed on natural finely divided diatomaceous silica having a Gardner-Coleman water adsorption index of at least 250%, a silica content of at least 90% by weight and a particle size distribution of 40 microns to 1 micron or finer. Specified acids are sulphuric, nitric, hydrochloric, phosphoric, acetic and formic acids. Suitably, the acid is intimately mixed with the silica with agitation in a conventional blending apparatus made of acid resistant material. The product may contain up to 80% of acid or acid solution.
