Abstract

1,175,727. Feeding apparatus. M. HOWLETT. 14 Aug., 1968 [22 May, 1967], No. 23561/67. Heading A1M. Apparatus for supplying feed to animals comprises a feed hopper 12 above a tray a trough 10 and flow control means governing the flow of feed from the hopper 12 to the tray 10 including actuating means displaceable by the animals for moving a flow control member. The lower part of the hopper 12 has a truncated conical section tapering to lip 17 which defines an opening. A rotary flow control disc 18 slightly larger than the opening is arranged below it and below that is mounted a conical spreader 19 with fins or blades 20. As the animal eats, its snout engages the fins 20 causing the spreader 19 and hence shaft 25 to rotate. This rotates disc 18 and spills the feed piled on the disc 18 on to the spreader 19 and into the tray 10. Scraper arms 40 are mounted on an eccenrtic boss by means of yoke 37. The flow control disc 18 may be adjusted vertically by means of rod 31 and lever 33. A cylindrical casing 21 encloses the lower part of hopper 12 and the disc 18.
