Abstract

1,175,116. Control of A.C. motors. BRUSH ELECTRICAL ENG. CO. Ltd. 27 Feb., 1968 [16 Dec., 1967], No. 57238/67. Heading H2J. For stable operation of an A.C. motor M which is supplied through a variable frequency inverter P from a D.C. source S, a link-current signal developed across resistor R is applied to potentiometer E associated with differentiating amplifier D. The frequency of operation of the inverter is a linear function of the frequency of pulses derived from an oscillator O whose input current is controlled by transistor T. When the rate of change of link-current becomes positive, a current passes through resistor R 2 to reduce the input to the oscillator and so decrease the frequency of the inverter. When the rate of change of link-current is negative, the output voltage of amplifier D exceeds a bias potential and the current through the resistor R 2 is reversed. This increases the input to the oscillator whereby the frequency of operation of the inverter is increased.
