Abstract
1,174,778. Hydromechanical change-speed gear. H. EBERT. 23 Nov., 1967 [25 Nov., 1966; 20 Oct., 1967], Nos. 52772/66 and 47816/67. Heading F2D. A hydromechanical transmission comprises parallel mechanical and hydrostatic gear paths in which the latter gear can be locked solid at an intermediate ratio between high and low to give a purely mechanical drive. In a first arrangement, provisional Specification 1,174,778 the input shaft 10 drives the output shaft 16 through a layshaft 36 and epicyclic gear units 15 ... 20, with swash-plate type closed circuit hydrostatic units 25, 29 between intermediate shafts 24, 27. Swash-plates 26 of units 25 are fixed while plates 30 of units 29 are adjustable. The shafts 27, 16 carry pinions 12, 38 with disc clutches 28, 39. At starting clutch 39 is engaged and clutch 28 disengaged, the units 25, 29 acting as pumps and motors respectively. The drive is mixed mechanical and hydraulic, the inclination of swash-plates 30 being reduced to increase speed, until when plates 30 are at zero setting the hydrostatic gear locks solid and a purely mechanical drive is transmitted through the epicyclic gear. To increase speed clutch 28 is engaged and clutch 39 released and operation of the hydrostatic units is reversed so that maximum speed is reached with swashplates 30 at their full negative setting. In a second arrangement, provisional Specification 47816/67 (not shown), the input shaft 10 is connected to clutch-engaged forward and reverse layshaft gears (13, 19) and both swashplates (31, 34) are adjustable, locking of the hydrostatic units for mechanical drive occurring with plate 34 at zero setting.
