Abstract

1,174,768. Fluid-pressure servomotor systems. DOWTY ELECTRICS Ltd. April 4, 1967 [March 3, 1966], No.9332/66. Heading G3P. [Also in Division F2] A gas or liquid servocontrol valve comprises a spool 3 centred by springs 43, 44 and moved by the pressure in control chambers 4, 5 supplied from inlet 8 via restricted passages 41, 42. The control pressures vary according to the currents in coils 30 which position leak-valves 33, 38 relative to respective nozzles 23, 37. The coils form part of pilot valves 18, 19 comprising a core 25 and an annular permanent magnet 27; alternatively, the core or the valve member could be of permanently magnetized material. The coils are connected in series in phase opposition so that a signal causes increased pressure in one control chamber and decreased pressure in the other. The main spool 3 has Zero lap in its null position and moves to connect one work port 7, 9 to the inlet and the other work port to its exhaust 6, 11, the port openings being proportional to the said signal. The grooves in the lands 14-16 reduce friction. The coils are impregnated with an insulating resin.
