1,174,274. Coated paper. BADISCHE ANILIN-& SODA-FABRIK A.G. 6 April, 1967 [7 April, 1966; 12 Aug., 1966], No. 15864/67. Heading B2E. [Also in Divisions C3 and C4] Paper-coating compositions containing, per 100 parts by weight of finely divided pigment, 1 .to 25 parts of a synthetic binder consisting of a mixture of a copolymer A having a glass transition temperaturre of -60‹ to + 30‹C and a water-soluble ammonium, amine or alkalimetal salt of a copolymer B and having a K value of 12 to 40, wherein copolymer A is derived from 20 to 70% styrene and/or acrylonitrile and either 80 to 30% of acrylates or methacrylates, or 20 to 80% of butadiene together with 0 to 30% of acrylates or methacrylates, and 0 to 10% of other monomers, and copolymer B is derived from 60 to 95% of acrylates or methacrylate 5 to 40% of ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids, and 0 to 10% of other monomers, the mixture of copolymers A and B containing 0.5 to 10%. of copolymer B. The compositions may suitably contain natural binders such as starch, casein, and soya protein. Suitable pigments are china clay, TiO, and satin white. Application of the compositions to raw stock is also mentioned. The coatings may suitably be obtained by knife-coating techniques.
