Abstract

1,173,913. Coated metal strip. GEORGE WILSON GAS METERS Ltd. 13 April, 1967 [21 April, 1966], No. 17438/66. Heading B2K. [Also in Division F2] A metal strip capable of being used as a hanger for supporting a pipe comprises the metal strip coated with a layer of rubber, or an elastomeric synthetic plastics material secured in engagement with each side of the strip, the strip and the coating layers each being formed with a plurality of apertures spaced apart along the length of the strip, the metal strip having been formed before coating with a series of holes spaced apart along the length of the strip in addition to the aforesaid apertures or with a series of dimples or depressions spaced apart in each face of the strip along the length thereof, the coating material having been allowed to flow in a liquid or plastic condition into the holes or dimples or depressions to improve bonding. The coating material may be applied in a liquid or plastic condition, or as a powder which is then heated to a liquid or plastic condition. The coating absorbs vibration and also provides protection against corrosion and acts as an electrical insulator. In Fig. 1, steel strip 1 is coated with cadmium. The strip has a central series of apertures 2 and also has a series of oval holes 3. The strip is coated with synthetic plastics material 4. The holes may be formed before or after the coating of the metal strip, and where the holes are formed before coating the coated material may have to be pierced to expose the holes. In Fig. 4, a piece of the coated strip is attached by a bolt 5 passing through one of the apertures 2 to a support and is then looped around a pipe 6, and secured thereto by another bolt 7.
