Abstract
1,173,839. Injection moulding. M. & G. MOSSI & GHISOLFI S.p.A. 29 Dec., 1967, No. 59192/67. Heading B5A. A cartridge case of plastics material, e.g. polyethylene, and comprising an integral tubular portion 2 and base portion 3 with an axial bore, is injection moulded within a mould shell 13 having a core 12 and base 14 with injection nozzles 15; in order to increase the mechanical strength of the base portion 3 a compression force is applied to it while the plastics material is in fluid condition. The force is applied by a piston 18 with a lower head 19 urged downwardly by a fluid-operated ram 24 acting through a spacer 22 and an axially adjustable upper head 20. After the moulding-operation the upper and lower plates 6 and 10 are separated from the plate 8 to separate the mould core and base from the mould shell, whereupon the cartridge case is expelled from the shell by compressed air fed through a conduit 17. The apparatus has a number of mould shells to produce a plurality of such cartridge cases simultaneously.
