Abstract
1,173,677. α - Amino - α - (trihalogenomethyl)- p-tolualdehyde derivatives. INSTYTUT BADAN JADROWYCH. 27 Oct., 1967 [27 Oct., 1966], No. 48878/67. Heading C2C. α - Amino - α - (trihalogenomethyl) - p - tolualdehyde derivatives of the general formula p-OCH-C 6 H 4 -CH(CX 3 )NHR, wherein R is a straight- or branched-chain alkyl, aralkyl, alicyclic or heterocyclic residue and X is a chlorine or bromine atom, are prepared by reaction of an acetalimine of the general formula p-(R<SP>1</SP>O) 2 CH-C 6 H 4 -CH=NR, wherein R<SP>1</SP> is an alkyl radical, with trichloro-acetic or tribromoacetic acid, followed by hydrolysis of the acetalic group in the resulting product. When hydrochloric acid is used to effect the hydrolysis, the product is conveniently isolated as the hydrochloride salt.
