Abstract

In a gas cooled nuclear reactor, the inner surface of the concrete pressure vessel is provided with a thermal insulating layer of a ceramic or glass. The insulation is formed into units which are separately assembled in gastight, evacuated, metal or ceramic enclosures. Each unit comprises layers of insulating material spaced apart either on a supporting spire or by spacing feet between the layers.
