Abstract

1,173,325. Boring earth, &c. REED INTERNATIONAL, Inc. 16 Dec., 1966 [1 April, 1966], No. 56370/66. Heading E1F. A roller cutter 46 has circumferential webs with two rows of hard-metal inserts spaced around each web, the inserts of one row being staggered and angled relative to those in the other row. These may be protruding parts between the webs to break the ridges left by the webs, and these parts may comprise hardmetal inserts. The cutter is mounted by bearings 50, 51, 52 on a journal 41 supported between legs 37, 38 by a pin 61. The bearings are protected by seals 65, 67 carried by the cutter. The legs are secured to a drill bit which comprises a plurality of cutters.
