In a shipbuilding workshop provided with five parallel overhead crane systems 1 . . . 5 having rails 7 carried by pillars 6, 12, 14, a common erection platform, consisting of a narrow portion 10 under inner crane systems 2, 3 and a broad portion 11 under outer crane systems 4, 5, is arranged and designed so that as the hull of a ship is completed step by step from prefabricated units it may be displaced laterally with respect to the paths of the cranes from narrow portion 10, through broad portion 11 into building dock 9. The workshop is especially suited for the building of large bulk carriers.
