Abstract

To ensure adequate lubrication to the crown wheel pinion bearing (not shown) in a conventional bevel differential gear when installed in an inverted position in, for example, a rearengined, or front wheel drive, vehicle, a screwed adjuster thrust block 13 engaging the back face of the crown wheel 11 is formed at its lower end with a scoop 16 which scrapes and collects oil from the crown wheel, the lower part of which is partly immersed in lubricating oil maintained at a level below the pinion bearing to prevent leakage therethrough, and feeds it via a flexible nylon tube 19 to passages 20, 22, 23 in the differential housing 10 and pinion bearing housing 12 direct to the pinion bearing, excess oil draining back into the housing 10 via a channel 24 in the lower part of the pinion bearing housing.
