Abstract

1,172,558. Wells &c. CAMMELL LAIRD & CO. (SHIPBUILDERS & ENGS) Ltd. 22 April, 1968 [27 April, 1967], No. 19417/67. Heading E1F. A well structure moored vertically over a sub-aqueous well comprises a hull 1 with a chamber 2 maintained under pressure to depress the water level therein and having an air lock 10 for access. The hull has ballast 3 forming the bottom of an annular chamber partly filled with water and containing equipment for processing the well products. During installation the structure is ballasted to float horizontally and is towed to the well, a float 13 being temporarily fixed in a central part, 20 of the chamber 2. When the structure is vertical over the wall the float is released from the structure and is connected to a well-riser 11 which is connected to the annular chamber by a flexible pipe 15. The products from the annular chamber are discharged through pipes running along the sea-bed, the structure being anchored to the bed by chains running through ducts 6. The chamber 2 is maintained under pressure by gas from the products, and has a vent 19. The riser may have an extension projecting through the chamber 2 for drilling.
